How to draw a baby dragon, step by step
Draw a baby dragon in eight steps: a round head, two small horns, a wide smile with one tooth, the belly and back, short legs, a wing, and a tail with three spikes. Keeping the head round and the body short is what makes it a baby dragon instead of a monster.
Before you start
- Round everything. A dragon becomes friendly or frightening entirely through the curve of the head and jaw.
- The wing is one shape with two scallops on the bottom edge — not feathers, not a bat wing with fingers.
- Spikes on the tail are three small triangles, evenly spaced.

What usually goes wrong
- Drawing the body long like a snake. A baby dragon is short and round, closer to a puppy in proportion.
- Starting with the wings. They go on after the body, or they end up attached to nothing.
- Adding too many spikes — three is plenty and stays neat.
What age is this for?
Ages 5-9. This one usually takes two sittings, and that is fine.
