How to draw a princess, step by step
Draw a princess in eight steps: a round face, hair falling on both sides, a small crown, eyes and a smile, shoulders and arms, a wide triangular gown, and the hem. The gown is a triangle — that single decision is what keeps a princess drawable for a five-year-old.
Before you start
- The gown is a triangle that gets wider all the way down. Do not try to draw a waist.
- The crown sits on the hair, not on the forehead.
- Arms come out of the sides of the dress near the top, short and simple.

What usually goes wrong
- Drawing a realistic body underneath. There is no body — the dress is the body.
- Making the head too small. In a child drawing the head should be roughly a third of the whole figure.
- Adding fingers. A rounded mitten shape reads better and is far less frustrating.
What age is this for?
Ages 4-8. Kids often want to add their own patterns to the gown afterwards — let them.
