How to draw a chick, step by step
Draw a chick in five steps: one round shape for the body and head together, a small triangle beak, a dot for the eye, a little wing curve, and two thin legs. The whole bird is one circle plus four small marks, which is why it works for very young children.
Before you start
- A chick is one shape, not two. The head and body are the same circle โ drawing them separately is what makes chicks look like ducks.
- The beak sits slightly above the middle of the circle, not at the edge.
Step by step
- Draw the round body
- Draw the wing lines
- Draw two round eyes
- Draw the pointy beak
- Draw the thin legs
What usually goes wrong
- Making the body oval instead of round. A chick reads as a chick because it is almost a perfect ball.
- Drawing long legs. Chick legs are barely longer than the beak.
What age is this for?
Ages 3-5. This is usually the first drawing a child finishes without help.
Drawing it in the app
A chick is a good place to start because there is nothing to get wrong โ a wobbly circle still looks like a chick. In Draw Along, each of these five lines appears one at a time on the screen, and your child traces over it with a finger before the next one shows up.
